Million Pebble Beach

Poetic and original story songs on piano.

Million Pebble Beach is the nom de guerre of Portsmouth's singer-songwriter and pianist, Claire Baker.

Her songs are whimsical, vividly imagined dream-like stories and journeys  - "Grimm's Fairytales on piano".

Her performances are lively, dreamy and engaging.

Her voice and musical style has been likened to Aldous Harding, Kate Bush, Björk, Regina Spektor, John Grant and Cate Le Bon.

Following on from "One Day We'll Go" EP released February 2023,

"Find Me in the Forest", a stripped back album streams to all platforms on 26th November.

"She is an excellent pianist and singer...very interesting lyrics...This lady is an artiste writ large, and is definitely one to watch." - Mark Kelly, Brighton and Hove News, 2 Sept 2023 review of Victorious Festival LIVE performance

"A unique and talented performer - Portsmouth is lucky to have you" - Promoter (book.events)

"Once in a blue moon you get to hear something very special, and this is it"  - Phil Letchford, review of 2020 demo album "The Adjacent Impossible" and Million Pebble Beach live  http://www.antifolk.com/

Claire is a keen supporter of the local music scene and community, often popping up at open mics. In June and July of 2023 Million Pebble Beach was one of a handful of singer-songwriters chosen to showcase Portsmouth's creative community as part of the inaugural "432 NOMADS" events, performing nine times in amongst spoken-word poets, rappers, singers and dance artists at venues across Portsmouth for Refugee Week 2023 and PORTSFEST 2023.

in 2023, Million Pebble Beach performed at the Isle of Wight's Ventor Fringe Festival, Hayling Island's HI-Fest,

The Revolution Records Stage for Old Town Live (Stevenage, Hertfordshire), a support slot for Rachael Sage at The Art House, Southampton,  before opening the Portsmouth Creates and People Lounge Stages at Victorious Festival, rounding off summertime with Weekend Offender Record's CIDERFEST and Escape to the Farm in Hambledon.

Past performances include Victorious Festival, 2019 & 2022, supporting Ellie Gowers  at Groundlings Theatre, Portsea, in 2022 ,Southampton's Music in the City, Hayling Island's HI-Fest, Southsea's Black Balloon Sessions, Future Folk, The Front Room, Open Ya Mouth, Weekend Offender Records Live and Shine Radio's Summer Showcase Music Festival.

Claire began performing solo as "Million Pebble Beach" in Portsmouth in 2018. Her career in the space industry, her love of the coast and of dreaming up impossibilities inspire her musical work. Claire's past musical adventures as a singer-songwriter, before moving back to her hometown, include fronting indie-pop band amanaboutadog, based in Hertfordshire and performing at Rhythms of the World Festival, Club 85, Bedford Esquires, The Bull & Gate, airplay on BBC Beds Herts & Bucks and a live session on Hertbeat Radio.

She had an absolute blast as lead singer of rock-pop band Monocle Rose, in London's iconic grassroots venues including The Dublin Castle, The Camden Eye, 12 Bar Club, The Borderline, The Kilburn Arms, 93 Feet East, The Fiddler's Elbow, releasing singles "Lolly" and "Alley Cat" in 2008, and an appearance on Camden's Balcony TV in 2009.
